2025 summer transfers watch: Ademola Lookman and 8 Super Eagles who could make last-minute moves

The transfer window closes in a few hours, and some Super Eagles stars are expected to switch clubs before then….

Over the last few weeks, the football world has been dominated by player transfers. From Europe, Africa, South America, and different parts of the world, players have been switching clubs.

However, Europe is the major focus here because that's really where the major transfers have been taking place.

The transfers started slowly at the start of the window, then it picked up a bit of pace midway. Now that it is close to reaching a screeching halt, the transfer deals are moving on fast, fiery and even borderline frantic.

In fact, over the next few hours, things are expected to get hotter. For most clubs, who are yet to get their desired targets, they will lock in now.

Then, the players, who have not gotten their desired moves will also push to get it over the line.

The transfer window in England and the other top five league closes by 7PM on Monday, but there will be a slight extension for clubs who already have deals that they are processing.

However, the windows in other countries like Scotland and Turkey are open for a a few extra days.

Super Eagles players have been actively involved in the transfer window this summer. Some of then like Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, and Wilfred Ndidi have gotten their moves, but there are some that will drag until the closing hours of the transfer window.

In this piece, Soccernet.ng highlights eight players you should be watching in the closing hours of the 2025 summer transfer window.

1. Ademola Lookman

It has been a tough summer for the Super Eagles star. As early as February this year, it was understood that he had an agreement in place with Atalanta to let him leave this summer.

Understand plan remains for Ademola Lookman to LEAVE Atalanta this summer.

Atalanta will try to clarify the situation with Gasperini in the next 24h after strong quotes… but won’t change future plans.

However, La Dea have played hardball with the suitors that have come in for the Super Eagles star, even though he openly made it clear that he wanted to leave.

Lookman went on strike for 15 days, but he has now returned to Atalanta, but he is not playing for them yet, as it seems there is no way back right now.

Bayern Munich and Tottenham are seriously interested in him. So, he is one to watch in the coming hours.

2. Joe Aribo

Since Southampton got relegated from the Premier League last season it was almost sealed that Aribo would leave the club. But things around him have been very silent this summer.

He has been linked to Rangers and the Turkish Super Lig, but nothing has happened yet.

Aribo has not been part of any of Southampton's games this season, with coach Will Still confirming that the Nigerian midfielder has to sort out his future.

Something might still come up for Aribo before transfer deadline day.

3. Christantus Uche

Christantus Uche is definitely one to watch on Monday. He joined Getafe last year and quickly grew to become an important player for the club.

Just a few days ago, it looked like he was set to join Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. Getafe had even accepted their €20 million offer. But the Super Eagles star was not satisfied with their personal terms, so the transfer didn't proceed.

However, Getafe are in a fix, as they need to sell a big player to be able to register all their players and make them eligible to play in the LaLiga.

Uche, who is their best player is also their biggest asset. So they have to sell. He has admirers in the Premier League and Serie A. So, he is expected to switch clubs. But his destination? Time will tell.

4. Kelechi Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho is another Super Eagles star who is expected to switch clubs. He is surplus to requirements at Sevilla and has to leave if he wants to get regular minutes.

Iheanacho has been linked with clubs like Samsunspor, Besiktas, and Real Oviedo.

As it stands, if he doesn't get a transfer tomorrow, then he is definitely not playing in one of the top five leagues this season.

5. Sadiq Umar

It is clear that Real Sociedad do not want Sadiq Umar anymore. But, the Super Eagles striker has struggled to get a move, despite being linked with clubs like Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, Alaves, Elche, and Girona.

Valencia look like the most interested party in all this, and Sadiq seems bent on joining them. Still, the problem has been their inability to meet Real Sociedad's financial demands.

Monday is decision day for them. If they don't get the deal over the line, Sadiq will definitely have to leave Spain.

6. Emmanuel Dennis

Emmanuel Dennis has had it rough in recent years. He joined Nottingham Forest from Watford in 2022, but things have not worked out well for him.

After struggling at the club in his first year, he has had loan stints at Istanbul Basaksehir, Watford, and Blackburn in the last two years. But things haven't worked well for him.

He returned to Nottingham Forest this summer, but he hasn't even trained with his teammates. Due to the situation, the club announced that they had reached an agreement to mutually terminate his contract.

Now, Dennis reportedly has admirers from Italy. If he will play there, the deal has to be sorted by tomorrow.

7. Taiwo Awoniyi

Taiwo Awoniyi is in a really bad situation at Nottingham Forest. He has three other strikers ahead of him in the pecking order. And that means that he won't play at all or even make the matchday squad.

He has been training with the team, but he has to leave if he wants to kick a ball at all this season.

The Super Eagles striker has not gotten many offers as of now. But with what is at stake, his agents will surely be working to get him a loan transfer at least.

As such, he is one to watch in the final hours of the transfer window.

8. Raphael Onyedika

Raphael Onyedika has been shining at Club Brugge since he joined, and is only a matter of time before he gets a big move.

Earlier, Soccernet.ng reported that the Super Eagles midfielder had interest from Galatasaray and Eintracht Frankfurt.

If the Eintracht Frankfurt is indeed true, they have to get the deal done and sorted on Monday. He is valued at €20 million, so it should not be a difficult deal to pull off.

9. Victor Boniface

Victor Boniface is in a tricky position at Bayer Leverkusen. Just last week, it seemed like he was AC Milan-bound, but they called off the deal.

Now, he is back at Bayer Leverkusen, and it is clear that he is not in Erik Ten Hag's plans for the season.

However, Ten Hag also faces the sack and might end up leaving the club. If he leaves, a new coach could fancy Boniface and give a lot of game time.

But it would be unwise to hinge his career on his coach getting sacked. So, if Boniface wants to play football consistently in one of the top five leagues this season, he has to explore an exit.

Meanwhile, Samuel Chukwueze's transfer to Fulham is already sealed and delivered. Tolu Arokodare's transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers is also almost complete.

These deals will likely be announced before the transfer window closes.
