Taiwo Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest in the 2023 summer transfer window and has scored 19 goals in 85 appearances for the club…

Soccernet.ng understands that Super Eagles attacker, Taiwo Awoniyi, is weighing up his future at Nottingham Forest after the club’s summer transfer spree transformed the attacking pecking order at the City Ground.

The Nigerian forward only returned to full training in July following a harrowing recovery from a life-threatening abdominal injury sustained in May.

Awoniyi suffered a ruptured intestine during Forest’s Premier League clash against Leicester City, underwent emergency surgery, and was placed in a medically induced coma before making a remarkable recovery that kept him sidelined for months.

Taiwo Awoniyi Unsettled at Nottingham Forest

But while his comeback was widely celebrated, Soccernet.ng understands that Forest’s transfer dealings have left the Super Eagles striker unsettled.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side invested more than £100 million on attacking reinforcements this summer, securing Igor Jesus from Botafogo, Dan Ndoye from Bologna, Omari Hutchinson from Ipswich Town, and Arnaud Kalimuendo from Rennes.

Ndoye and Hutchinson, both marquee signings, are tipped to become central figures in Nuno’s frontline, with Kalimuendo also expected to command significant minutes.

Their arrivals have cast doubt on Awoniyi’s role at the club and have also sparked concerns that he could be pushed down the pecking order at the City Ground.

Sources close to the player reveal that the former Union Berlin striker is open to a move away from the club for regular playing time as the Africa Cup of Nations tournament draws closer.

What Next For The Super Eagles Star?

Awoniyi's exit saga also comes at a delicate time for Forest, with tensions already brewing between manager Nuno and owner Evangelos Marinakis.

This situation, which could see the Nigerian attacker play under a new manager, may prove to be make-or-break in the coming days.

While the transfer window is still open, the Nigerian attacker's camp will be in serious search for a new club or have a conversation with the club management on his future at the club.
