Joel Obi mourns the loss of his former coach, who battled the white blood cell disease leukaemia before passing away at the age of 53.

Nigeria International, Joel Obi, laments the passing of an ex-coach for AC Millan, Sinisa Mihajlovic, who passed away at the age of 53 after a protracted fight with leukaemia.

In one of the clubs he has played for, the 30-year-old Nigerian, known as the “Journeyman,” had the opportunity to play for the manager while he was in Turin.

The forward signed a four-year deal and relocated from Inter Millan to Torino in 2015 for a cost of €2.2 million. Three years later, he transferred to Chievo Verona.

Giampiero Ventura and Obi teamed for a few months before it was made known that the Italian was departing the club after five years.

After striking a settlement with AC Milan following his dismissal, the Serbian coach signed a two-year contract with the Maroons in May 2016, ushering in a new era for the team as they finished 12th in Serie A that season.

The Nigerian attacker had the opportunity to work with the manager before Granata also fired him in 2018. He made two assists in nine starts during the coach’s first season, and he also scored five goals and provided an assist during the Serbian’s second season in charge.

The striker expressed his sorrow for the loss of coach Mihajlovi, who had coached him at the time of Turin, in his Instagram story after the coach’s passing.

He said, “Heart aching news, you were a warrior till the end” as quoted by ilreggino.it

“it was an honor for me to have had you as a coach and to have known you as a person. You leave a huge void but above all a great life lesson for all of us… Thanks for everything mister, rest in peace” says Obi.

Francesco Totti, Daniele De Rossi, and Bruno Conti were among the numerous  icons that attended Mihajlovic’s funeral earlier today in the Italian capital.
