Super Eagles midfielder Aderemi Adeoye is on the verge of joining English Championship side Middlesbrough from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) outfit Ikorodu City, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder was a standout performer for Ikorodu City, playing a pivotal role in the club's impressive fourth-place finish in the Nigerian top flight last season.
Adeoye gained widespread recognition for his unique skill set; he is a tireless worker off the ball, known for his ability to cover every blade of grass, and is equally adept as a skilled tackler.
His stellar domestic form earned him a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles squad for the Unity Cup in May.
One of only eight home-based players selected by coach Eric Chelle, Adeoye made two substitute appearances, featuring against Zimbabwe and Jamaica.

Aderemi Adeoye: Super Eagles Midfielder Close To Middlesbrough
According to reports, Adeoye is currently on trial at Middlesbrough ahead of a potential summer transfer.
Although direct moves from the NPFL to the English Championship are relatively rare, the club is evaluating the youngster’s suitability for the second tier of English football. Should he impress during this period, a permanent transfer is expected to follow.

Adeoye is currently valued at €50,000 on Transfermarkt, but Ikorodu City are expected to demand a significantly higher fee before sanctioning his departure.
A successful move would represent a landmark achievement for both the player and the NPFL.
If he completes the move, Adeoye would join the list of Super Eagles stars—including the likes of John Obi Mikel, Kenneth Omeruo, and Kelechi Iheanacho—who have previously represented Middlesbrough.
