Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has opened up about his ambitions after completing a permanent transfer to newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onyeka initially joined the Sky Blues on loan from Brentford during the January transfer window after struggling for regular playing time under Keith Andrews during the first half of the season.
The 28-year-old made only six substitute appearances for Brentford before leaving to represent Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He played a key role in midfield for Eric Chelle’s side, as they went on to secure a record ninth bronze medal at the tournament.

After arriving at Coventry, Onyeka made 14 Championship appearances and scored once in an entertaining 3-2 victory over Derby County. He immediately became a mainstay in Frank Lampard’s side and helped them secure the Championship title and earn promotion to the Premier League, ending the club's 25-year absence from England's top flight.
Onyeka: Super Eagles midfielder outlines objectives with Coventry City
The Super Eagles midfielder’s loan move to Coventry City in January included an obligation-to-buy clause that would become active if the club secured promotion to the Premier League.
Following the club's successful campaign, that clause has now been triggered, making his stay permanent and the Nigerian international leaves Brentford after making 87 appearances in all competitions since joining in the summer of 2021.

Speaking after sealing his permanent move, Onyeka expressed his excitement at staying with Coventry and revealed that his next objective is to help the club remain in the Premier League and build on last season's success.
“I'm really excited for the new season with Coventry”, the Super Eagles midfielder said, via BBC Sport.
“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals: to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League. I'm really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.
“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my team-mates and bring my experience.
“My ambition now is to help the team stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can”, he concluded.

Onyeka will get his first taste of Premier League action with Coventry City in a tough opening day fixture against defending champions Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on August 21.
The Super Eagles midfielder will also return to the Gtech Community Stadium in February 2027 to face his former side for the first time since completing his permanent move, as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.
