Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman made Champions League history on Wednesday night as Atlético Madrid played out an entertaining 3-3 draw against Club Brugge in their knockout phase play-off first leg, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman scored Atletico’s second goal of the evening, a strike that placed him alongside Manchester City star Erling Haaland in the record books. The Nigerian winger became only the fifth player ever to score for two different clubs in a single Champions League season.
Before completing his January move to Spain, Lookman had already scored in the competition for Atalanta during their win over Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the campaign. His latest goal ensured he joined a rare group that includes Haaland, Dani Olmo, Luis Díaz and Santiago Giménez.

The night also marked another personal milestone. Lookman became the first Atletico player to score on his Champions League debut since Héctor Herrera in 2019, and the first starter to achieve the feat since Ángel Correa in 2015.
Atletico began brightly and took the lead early when Julián Álvarez converted a penalty after a VAR review. The Spanish side doubled their advantage moments before half-time when Antoine Griezmann flicked on Marcos Llorente’s corner and Lookman reacted quickest at the back post to finish calmly.

Lookman and Onyedika shine as Brugge fightback
While Lookman impressed for Atlético, another Nigerian, Raphael Onyedika, played a decisive role as Club Brugge mounted an impressive comeback.
The midfielder had earlier tested Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak from distance, and his persistence paid off shortly after the restart. Following a strong save by Oblak, Onyedika reacted fastest to score from close range and reduce the deficit.
Club Brugge continued to push forward and soon levelled through Nicolo Tresoldi after excellent wing play from Mamadou Diakhon.
Atletico responded when Joel Ordonez accidentally turned the ball into his own net, seemingly handing the Spanish side victory late in the match.
But the drama was not finished. With time running out, Onyedika produced a moment of quality, setting up Christos Tzolis for a late equaliser that secured a deserved 3-3 draw for the Belgian club.
The result leaves the tie finely balanced ahead of the second leg at Atletico’s Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium, where a place in the Champions League round of 16 will be decided.
