Chelsea and England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has been crowned the winner of the 2025 FIFA The Best Women’s Goalkeeper Award, Soccernet.ng reports.

Hampton edged out elite competition, including that of Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, to claim one of the most prestigious individual prizes in women’s football.

The award was confirmed on Tuesday night after FIFA released the official voting results, with Hampton emerging on top following a year of outstanding performances for both club and country.

She becomes only the second England player to win the honour, following Mary Earps’ back-to-back successes in 2022 and 2023.

Hampton secured the prize with 28 voting points, finishing ahead of Barcelona’s Cata Coll, who placed second on 20 points, and Chile and Lyon veteran Christiane Endler, who ranked third with 10 points.

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing fourth with eight points in a highly competitive field that featured seven goalkeepers from Europe, Africa and South America.

While the Chelsea woman celebrated her moment at the summit, Nigeria and Nnadozie would be proud of the Super Falcons star's placing among the most reliable goalkeepers in world football.

FIFA The Best: Nnadozie’s rise continues despite missing podium

At just 25, Nnadozie’s fourth-place finish represents another major milestone in a remarkable year that has seen her collect individual honours and dominate performance metrics in England.

The Super Falcons goalkeeper finished ahead of Ann-Katrin Berger, Anna Moorhouse and Phallon Tullis-Joyce, as her consistency at the highest level attracts more recognition.

Her global ranking comes on the back of an impressive run of form in the Women’s Super League, where she has become a standout figure since joining Brighton & Hove Albion Women.

Earlier this month, Nnadozie moved to the top of the WSL goal-prevention rankings, a data-driven metric that measures how many goals a goalkeeper prevents compared to the quality of shots faced.

She currently leads the chart with a goal-prevention value of 2.9, ahead of Hampton (1.9) and Japan’s Ayaka Yamashita (1.1).

That impact was evident again in Brighton’s recent 1–0 away win over London City Lionesses, where Nnadozie produced five saves to record her third clean sheet of the season.

She has now made 42 saves in ten league matches, with Brighton boasting the joint fourth-best defence in the WSL.

The Nigeria international also finished fourth in the inaugural Women’s Yachine Trophy earlier this year, another award won by Hampton.

Despite missing out on the FIFA crown, Nnadozie’s trajectory remains firmly upward.

A couple of weeks ago, Nnadozie claimed her third consecutive CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award in a year she helped the Super Falcons win the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Paris FC shotstopper will look to continue her excellent displays when Brighton tackle Aston Villa on January 11.
