Medical concerns send Victor Boniface back to Bayer Leverkusen today

It has been a torrid week for Victor Boniface, and it might just get worse

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is set to return to his German club Bayer Leverkusen as he awaits AC Milan's decision on his signing, Soccernet.ng reports.

News broke last week that AC Milan wanted to sign Boniface, and the deal proceeded pretty quickly, as they agreed on personal terms with the player and sorted out the transfer details with Bayern Leverkusen.

The transfer should have been completed since last week, but it has hit a snag. During the medicals, AC Milan grew skeptical about Boniface's injury history.

Recall that he has suffered two anterior cruciate ligament injuries in the course of his career. This is one of the worst injuries that athletes suffer, as it takes a long time to recover from, and in some cases, they never return to their best.

Asides from his ACL injuries which he suffered earlier in his career, Boniface has consistently suffered injuries at Bayer Leverkusen.

AC Milan have been dragging their feet on the issue. And now, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Boniface is on his way back to Germany to await the Rossoneri's decision on signing him.

⚠️ After medical tests at AC Milan, Victor Boniface returns to Germany as there’s still no green light to his move.

Will AC Milan Sign Victor Boniface?

Things don't look good for Victor Boniface at the moment. In fact, in the last few hours, AC Milan have been linked with other strikers.

Clubs don't usually joke with the injury records of their players, and the Nigerian's own isn't exactly pretty.

On Saturday, AC Milan's director Igli Tare even admitted that they are impressed with the 24-year-old's performances on the pitch, but his injury records aren't great.

The club is expected to meet over the issue and make a decision in the coming hours. To them, signing Boniface would be a huge gamble.

Unfortunately for the Super Eagles star, Bayer Leverkusen doesn't feel like home anymore, as coach Erik Ten Hag does not fancy him much.

So if he has to stay with Die Werkself, his game time will reduce drastically. As such, Boniface will be hoping that the AC Milan deal works out for him.
