Transfer: AC Milan open talks with Nigeria’s 4th greatest goalscorer in Bundesliga history

Super Eagles stars: Moffi, Onyeka, Boniface, Onyedika

AC Milan have stepped up their pursuit of a new centre-forward, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian star Victor Boniface emerging as a serious option under returning boss Massimiliano Allegri, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Rossoneri, already settled on Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic flanking the attack, are now focused on finding the right No.9 to lead the line.

Santiago Giménez, signed in January from Feyenoord for €32 million, remains the only recognised striker currently in the squad, but doubts persist over his ability to command a regular starting role in a title-chasing team.

That’s where Boniface enters the frame. The Nigerian forward has reportedly caught Milan’s attention, with transfer market insider Sacha Tavolieri revealing that initial discussions have taken place between the club and the player’s representatives.

The 24-year-old was a standout performer in Bayer Leverkusen’s treble-winning campaign, but a string of injury concerns, along with the rise of Patrick Schick, have impacted his market valuation.

Once priced between €50-60 million, Boniface is now believed to be available for closer to €30-40 million — a figure Milan deem manageable. His wage demands are also considered reasonable, which strengthens the possibility of a deal.

Allegri is said to be an admirer of Boniface’s attributes: a strong physical presence, composed finishing, and the ability to link up play effectively.

However, concerns persist regarding his fitness record, with the striker managing only 19 league appearances last season due to thigh and knee issues.

Still, Boniface's goalscoring ability is not in doubt, having netted 22 goals in 42 Bundesliga games – the fourth most prolific Nigerian in the history of the competition. Only Jonathan Akpoborie (60 goals), Victor Agali (32), and Anthony Ujah (30) have managed more.

Meanwhile, Dusan Vlahović remains another name under consideration for Milan. The Serbian striker could be on the move this summer as Juventus look to offload his hefty €12 million annual salary. Milan are reportedly monitoring the situation, hoping to strike if Juve lower their asking price — currently set at €30 million.

Allegri, who coached Vlahović at Juventus, maintains a positive relationship with the 24-year-old, potentially smoothing negotiations if Milan make a formal approach. However, any deal will likely require Juventus to subsidise part of his wages or for the player to agree to a salary cut.

For now, Milan are keeping their options open, with Boniface and Vlahović topping a shortlist aimed at finally resolving their central attacking conundrum.
