Former Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag was appointed as Bayer Leverkusen boss a little over a month ago, and that has put the future of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface in the balance Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen from Belgian club Royale Union SG two years ago, an he has made quite an impression.

In his first season, he contributed 21 goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. Then last season, he did 11 goals and two assists in 27 games.

Although Boniface has been great at Leverkusen, his time there has been characterized with a lot of injuries.

This often creates opportunities for players like Patrik Schick to steal his place as the first-choice striker at the club.

In fact, at the tail-end of last season, Boniface did not get a lot of game time, as he became a bench warmer.

That prompted talks that he would leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, as the club are looking to rebuild after a crazy summer that has seen them lose most of their best legs.

But according to a new report, by Bundesliga Insider, Ten Hag has made a decision on Victor Boniface, and he might want the Super Eagles star to stay a bit longer.

This is as the Dutch tactician plans to test Boniface and Schick in a two-pronged attack in his system and see how they work.

Boniface and Schick are two distinct players, as while the former loves to have the ball on his feet and often drops into the midfield to link up play, Schick prefers to lurk around the box to pounce on available opportunities.

Ten Hag will likely test this tactic in pre-season. And if it works, he will employ it next season.

Will Victor Boniface leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer?

There have been talks that Boniface will leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, but nothing concrete has happened yet. The 24-year-old does not even seem interested in leaving at the moment.

It looked like he was set to exit the club in January, when Al Nassr came with a big money deal. But it fell through eventually.

But now, Boniface has not been linked with any clubs recently. So he might have to stick at Bayer Leverkusen. Moreover, he still has three years left on his contract.
