Fenerbahce appear to have surged ahead of rivals Besiktas in the race to sign Super Eagles star Henry Onyekuru, as the Turkish giants intensify efforts to bring the former Everton winger back to the Süper Lig, Soccernet.ng reports.
Besiktas had been in negotiations with the player for several days and were optimistic of sealing a deal.
However, Nigerian transfer insider Buchi Laba suggests Fenerbahce have now tabled an improved offer that has swung the momentum in their favour.
Super Eagles star Henry Onyekuru could be set for a Turkish return
The 27-year-old winger, who currently plies his trade with Al-Fayha in the Saudi Pro League, is no stranger to Turkish football.
Onyekuru has previously enjoyed multiple loan spells at Galatasaray, where he made a name for himself with dazzling displays and crucial goals.
His first stint at Galatasaray came in 2018 while on loan from Everton — his parent club at the time. Though he never played a competitive game for the Toffees due to work permit restrictions, Onyekuru flourished in Turkey.

He helped Galatasaray to a domestic double in the 2018–19 season, scoring a vital goal in a 2–1 win over title rivals İstanbul Başakşehir to seal the Süper Lig crown.
Following a £12–15 million move to AS Monaco in 2019, Onyekuru struggled for consistency in Ligue 1 and eventually returned to Galatasaray for two further loan spells.
Later, he joined Olympiacos in 2021 before switching to Al-Fayha in August 2023, after a brief stint at Adana Demirspor.
Since arriving in Saudi Arabia, Onyekuru has been a regular contributor for Al-Fayha, notching 11 goals and three assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. But with Turkish heavyweights circling, a return to a league where he previously thrived now looks increasingly likely.
Onyekuru is currently recovering from an injury that required surgery and which kept him out of action for a large chunk of the 2024-25 Saudi Pro League campaign.
The Super Eagles forward, a member of the Nigerian squad that won bronze medal at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, is valued at €3 million.
Onyekuru's contract at Al-Fayha FC expires at the end of this month.
