Gift Orban welcomes Besiktas challenge after Amedspor hat-trick against Basaksehir

Super Eagles target Gift Orban has issued a strong challenge to Besiktas ahead of their meeting with Amedspor in the Turkish Super Lig next weekend, Soccernet.ng reports.

The on-loan Hoffenheim forward has enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2026/27 season at the newly promoted Super Lig side, where he has played a key role in their impressive start to the campaign.

Amedspor currently sit third in the Turkish Super Lig table with 10 points from their opening five games. They have won three matches, drawn one and suffered one defeat so far.

Orban joined Amedspor on loan from German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim during the summer transfer window as he looks to revive his career, and he continued his fine form with a stunning hat-trick in their 5-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward scored three times in the space of 23 minutes to help Amedspor secure a huge victory. It was also his second hat-trick against Basaksehir.

Orban had previously scored a hat-trick against the same club during the 2022/23 season while playing for Gent. 

On that occasion, he made history by scoring the fastest hat-trick in men's UEFA club competitions, finding the net three times in just three minutes and 25 seconds as Gent recorded a 4-1 win over Basaksehir in the second leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League round-of-16 tie.

The incredible treble took Orban's tally to six goals in the Turkish Super Lig this season, putting him level with fellow Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen, who has also scored six goals for Galatasaray.

The Nigerian duo have made impressive starts to the campaign and are among the early contenders for the Turkish Super Lig Golden Boot.

Orban is now looking forward to testing himself against Besiktas — one of the biggest teams in Turkish football, when the two sides meet next weekend. The Amedspor forward has revealed that his side are not afraid of their opponents and will go into the game determined to fight for a positive result.

“Yes, we will play against a big team. They have big players, but we go out to fight the match. We will be the side that wants to fight and win in the next match”, he told beIN Sports after the match.

Gift Orban will now be hoping to maintain his excellent form and add to his goal tally when Amedspor take on Besiktas next weekend.

The newly promoted side will also be looking to continue their impressive start to the season and secure another important result before the September international break.
