The Super Eagles of Nigeria will fly out of Lagos on Sunday ahead of their participation in the Unity Cup — a four-nation invitational tournament scheduled to take place in London later this month, Soccernet.ng reports.

A contingent of home-based players and technical staff will depart from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and link up with their foreign-based teammates in the English capital.

The Nigerian squad will open their campaign with a high-profile clash against long-time rivals Ghana on Tuesday, 27 May, at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford.

Head coach Eric Chelle has included a number of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players in his squad, with the Malian tactician looking to test new options as he prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers later this year.

Among those making the trip are captain Ahmed Musa, Ifeanyi Oyebuchi, Papa Daniel, Nduka Junior, Sadiq Ismaila, and Waliu Ojetoye.

Speaking to thenff.com, Chelle said the Unity Cup presents a timely opportunity to experiment with squad depth and tactical variety.

“We’re looking forward to participating in the Unity Cup, as it will give us the chance to try out new players in different roles,” Chelle said. “It will also help us strengthen our squad ahead of the crucial matches in September and October.”

The Unity Cup will feature Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, with all matches set to be played at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.

After facing Ghana in their opener, Nigeria will play a second match against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago.

Meanwhile, a different Nigerian squad will travel to Moscow for an international friendly against Russia on Friday, 6 June.

With Chelle aiming to find the right blend of experience and emerging talent, the Unity Cup could offer vital clues into the Super Eagles’ plans for a defining qualification campaign ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
