Nigeria’s Edo Queens chase N654 million prize as Morocco host CAF Women’s Champions League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that Morocco will host the 2024 edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League Finals, Soccernet.ng reports.

This premier women’s club football tournament will take place from November 9-23, 2024, making it the second time Morocco has hosted the event after a successful edition in 2022.

A total of eight elite clubs will compete for Africa’s top prize in women's football.
The winners will take home an impressive $400,000 (approximately N654 million), while the runners-up will receive $250,000 (N408.7 million).

Among the teams vying for this prize is Edo Queens, who will represent Nigeria after a stellar 2024 season that saw them claim their first-ever Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) title.

Edo Queens extended their dominance to West African football after the Benin-based side won the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

The Nigerian champions secured a commanding 3-0 win over Ainonvi FC of Benin in the final of the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers, held at the Stade de La Paix de Bouaké in Côte d’Ivoire.

That victory secured Edo Queens' spot in the competition proper, where they will face some of the continent’s best teams.

Current champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa will be looking to defend their title, having won the competition twice in the last three years.

Morocco’s ASFAR, the 2022 champions, will also be a strong contender, particularly with the advantage of being the host nation.

Morocco successfully hosted the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, an experience that further solidified the country's reputation as a premier destination for African women’s football tournaments.

CAF Women’s Champions League 2024 Qualified Clubs:

  • Holders: Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
    Host: ASFAR (Morocco)
  • WAFU A: Aigles de la Medina (Senegal)
  • WAFU B: Edo Queens (Nigeria)
  • COSAFA: University of Western Cape (South Africa)
  • UNAF: Tutankhamun (Egypt)
  • CECAFA: CBE FC (Ethiopia)
  • UNIFFAC: TP Mazembe (DR Congo)
