Nasarawa Amazons are poised to clinch their first Nigerian Women's Football League (NWFL) title in eight years, under the stewardship of head coach Christopher Musa Danjuma, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Lafia-based club has impressed throughout the season and now stands on the precipice of history.
Danjuma, a man who has spent years guiding Nigeria's women's football, exudes cautious optimism as the final round of the Super Six approaches.
“It’s just one more step, so that we can shout Hallelujah,” he told Ademola Victor TV, expressing his belief that his team can overcome the final hurdle and secure the coveted title.
The Amazons head into the last round of games sitting at the top of the league table, with an undefeated record after four matches — two wins and two draws. Their eight points place them just one point ahead of defending champions Edo Queens, who have seven, setting the stage for a thrilling finale.
On May 17, at 3:00 pm, the fate of the league will be decided on a historic Matchday 5. All three decisive fixtures will kick off simultaneously at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, ensuring fairness in this tense title race.

Nasarawa Amazons will take on Edo Queens in a match that promises to be a dramatic showdown. A win for either side will guarantee the championship, while a draw could leave the door ajar for other teams, depending on goal difference and goals scored.

NWFL: Falconets coach Danjuma targets historic title as Nasarawa Amazons & Edo Queens face off
“It's one more step,” Danjuma continued, “and whatever energy we need to just take that last lap, to the glory of God, we must do. We will not come this far and want to have a setback.”
This is not the first time Danjuma has been at the center of Nigerian women’s football. Since 2017, he has also served as the head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets.
Under his guidance, the team reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup and the Round of 16 at last year’s tournament.
However, it is now with Nasarawa Amazons that Danjuma looks set to achieve his biggest domestic success, guiding the club to their first league title since 2017 and only their third in history, following their triumphs in 2013 and 2017.

Despite finishing third in Group A during the regular season, Nasarawa Amazons have come into their own in the Super Six, surpassing expectations. Their eight points from four matches have given them a narrow but crucial advantage over their rivals.
Edo Queens, Bayelsa Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies are all within striking distance, making the title race one of the tightest in NWFL Premiership history.
As the final matchday approaches, the drama is building.
“This is a historic moment for the league, and we want the best team to emerge champion under the most transparent conditions,” said NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi.
“Simultaneous kick-off ensures fairness and keeps the excitement alive,” she added, underlining the importance of integrity as the competition heads into its climax.
On the other pitches, Bayelsa Queens will take on Naija Ratels, who have yet to secure a point. A commanding victory could see Bayelsa move up to the top, depending on the outcome of Nasarawa’s game.
Meanwhile, Remo Stars Ladies, playing Rivers Angels, could still pull off a surprise title win, but they too require a strong performance and favorable results elsewhere.
