Nigeria Women’s Premier League champions Bayelsa Queens booked their place in the semifinals of the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B qualifiers after a commanding 3-0 victory over Togo’s ASKO on Wednesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Played at the Stade du Lycée Scientifique, the Prosperity Girls controlled proceedings from the outset but had to wait until the second half to make their dominance count.

Despite carving out several chances in the opening period, Bayelsa were let down by wayward finishing and resilient defending from the Togolese champions.

ASKO themselves threatened with a shot that clipped the post, but both sides went into the break level.

The breakthrough arrived just two minutes after the restart when ASKO defender Oumou Bani inadvertently turned the ball into her own net under pressure.

That early second-half goal lifted the Nigerians, who doubled their advantage six minutes later. Janet Akekoromowei delivered a teasing cross that Alaba Olabiyi powered home with a firm header to make it 2-0.

Midway through the second half, the result was beyond doubt.

Teen sensation Shakirat Moshood, fresh from her heroics in Bayelsa’s opening game against Ghana’s Police Ladies, latched onto a long ball from Sefiat Idris and finished with a composed left-footed strike.

The 17-year-old, who has now scored twice in the tournament, once again boosted her growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s brightest young prospects.

Bayelsa Queens had defeated Police Ladies 2-1 in their first outing, meaning Wednesday’s win takes them to six points from two matches and guarantees a semifinal berth with a group game still to play.

For ASKO, elimination has already been confirmed after back-to-back defeats, including a 1-0 loss to Sam Nelly of Benin in their opening fixture.

Bayelsa Queens will now face Sam Nelly in their final group match, knowing top spot remains within reach.
