Bayelsa Queens will once again carry Nigeria’s hopes in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B Qualifiers after being drawn in a challenging Group B, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian Women’s Premier League champions have been draw alongside Ghanaian league winners, Police Ladies, Togo champions, ASKO, and Benin Republic queens, Sam Nelly. The regional tournament will run from 9–24 August 2025 in Ivory Coast.

The Restoration Girls are making history as the first Nigerian club to feature twice in the WAFU B qualifiers, having debuted in 2022 and lifting the title at the first attempt.

That triumph secured them a spot at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League, where they finished in a respectable third position.

Led by head coach Whyte Ogbonda, the Yenagoa-based side stormed to this year’s qualifiers after a flawless run at the 2024–25 NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs, where they clinched their sixth league title.

Bayelsa Queens will aim to reclaim the regional crown from fellow Nigerian league campaigners Edo Queens, who are the reigning champions.

Edo Queens thrashed Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC 3–0 in the 2024 final which was also held in Ivory Coast.

Group A features hosts ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, Niger’s AS Garde Nationale, and Burkina Faso’s USFA. Only the winners of each group will meet in the final, with the champions booking the region’s sole ticket to the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League main tournament.

Founded in 2000 by then Bayelsa State governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Bayelsa Queens have been trailblazers in Nigerian women’s football.

In 2007, they became the first female club in the country to hold a pre-season abroad. They have collected an impressive list of honours, including six league titles, the Aiteo Cup, the Nigeria Women’s Super Cup, and the Sheroes Cup.

Their consistency and competitive edge make them one of the most respected sides in West Africa. With the experience of past continental campaigns and the hunger to return to Africa’s biggest stage, Bayelsa Queens will approach the qualifiers with both confidence and caution, knowing the stakes are high.

The 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers will be held in Ivory Coast.
