Serie A: Dessers and Okereke suffer relegation with Cremonese

Okereke and Dessers joined Cremonese last summer, but it has been a season to forget

Super Eagles strikers Cyriel Dessers and David Okereke have been relegated from the Serie A with Cremonese following a goalless draw between Spezia and Lecce, Soccernet.ng reports.

Cremonese gained promotion to the Serie A last summer, and they recruited two Nigerian strikers Dessers and Okereke to add some bite to the attack.

However, the two Nigerian strikers have failed to make an impact. Dessers and Okereke have combined for 13 goals this season. Cremonese have lost 20 games and won just four all season.

They had the chance to keep their hopes alive when they welcomed Bologna to the Stadio Giovanni Zini on Saturday. However, they were humiliated 5-1 by the Rossoblu. Following the loss, they needed Lecce to defeat Spezia to have a glimmer of hope.

Unfortunately for them, it did not work out as both teams played out a goalless draw. The result ensures that Cremonese are seven points away from safety with two games left. As such, it would be impossible for them to survive the drop.

Okereke was part of the Venezia team that got relegated from the Serie A last season, but he was lucky to get a move to Cremonese.

Dessers or Okereke could get a move to a Serie A club especially as Cremonese would be looking to shed some financial weight in preparation for Serie B football.
