Nigeria set new World Cup record as Falconets demolish New Caledonia 10-1

Nigeria’s under-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, demolished New Caledonia 9–1 in their final group fixture of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

​Having suffered a defeat to Spain in their opener and played out a goalless draw against China in their second match, coach Moses Aduku’s side faced a must-win situation against New Caledonia to advance from Group F—either as runners-up or among the best third-placed teams. The Falconets rose to the occasion.

​New Caledonia entered the clash as the group's whipping girls after heavy defeats—11–0 against Spain and 5–0 against China. Another lopsided scoreline was widely expected, and the Falconets duly delivered.

​Coach Aduku set his team up to attack, and they took the game to their opponents right from the opening whistle.

​Despite an early onslaught, Nigeria had to wait 17 minutes for the breakthrough. It finally arrived from the penalty spot, where Ramotalahi dispatched her strike with aplomb to make it 1–0.
