Nigeria's Falconets kept their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup campaign alive after a goalless draw with China PR at Arena Sosnowiec in Poland, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 0-0 result gave Nigeria their first point in Group F after they lost 2-0 to Spain in their opening match.

The Falconets had chances to break the deadlock against China but could not find the goal they needed. China, who opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over New Caledonia, took their points tally to four and moved into second place.

Spain are top of the group with six points and have already secured their place in the Round of 16. They followed their 2-0 win over Nigeria by producing one of the biggest victories in the history of the competition.

Nigeria now face New Caledonia in their final group match on Sunday, September 13, knowing that another dropped point could end their tournament.

Spain's 11-goal rout changes Falconets' qualification picture

Spain demolished New Caledonia 11-0 in their second Group F match, with Celia Segura scoring four times in a performance that sent her to the top of the Golden Boot race.

Segura struck in the 33rd, 46th and 53rd minutes before converting a 65th-minute penalty. She was named the Visa Player of the Match after her four-goal display.

Spain were already 5-0 ahead at half-time. Pau Comendador opened the scoring in the 10th minute before Marisa Garcia made it 2-0 seven minutes later. Segura added Spain's third in the 33rd minute, Alba Cerrato scored in the 43rd, and Garcia completed her first-half brace in stoppage time.

Spain continued to attack after the break. Their late pressure produced further goals from Carla Julia in the 89th minute and Rosalia Dominguez in the fourth minute of added time, completing the 11-0 win.

The result left New Caledonia bottom of Group F with no points and 16 goals conceded in two matches.

For Nigeria, that heavy defeat could offer an important opportunity on the final day. The Falconets have one point and a -2 goal difference, while China have four points and a +5 goal difference. Spain have six points and a +13 goal difference.

Nigeria's clearest route is to beat New Caledonia and reach four points. That would give them a strong chance of finishing among the four best third-placed teams, who also qualify for the Round of 16 under the 24-team World Cup format.

A win would also give Nigeria a chance to improve their goal difference. New Caledonia have conceded 16 goals without scoring, so the Falconets will know that goals could prove important if several third-placed teams finish on four points.

Finishing second in Group F is much harder. Nigeria would need to beat New Caledonia, while Spain would have to defeat China, and the Falconets would then need to overturn China's seven-goal advantage in goal difference.

A draw against New Caledonia would leave Nigeria on two points, making qualification difficult. A defeat would eliminate the Falconets.
