Brighton coach reveals when Femi Azeez could make debut

Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler has provided an update on the fitness of Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez ahead of their clash against Coventry City in the Premier League on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Azeez completed a summer move to the Seagulls on transfer deadline day from Championship side Millwall in a deal worth just over £15 million.

The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 season, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions for the Lions as he helped their push for promotion to the Premier League.

He also made his Super Eagles debut during the Unity Cup, scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the semi-final before featuring in Nigeria's 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final.

Hurzeler reveals when Femi Azeez could make Brighton debut

Brighton will visit the Coventry Building Society Arena to face newly promoted Coventry City in their fourth game of the season, with the Seagulls looking to record their first win since beating Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Hurzeler revealed that Azeez will still need to be assessed before a decision is made on whether he can feature against Coventry.

“Also regarding him, I hope he will be an option. He will definitely change the squad”, the German told BBC Sport.

“Hopefully everything is fine and hopefully he will be an option for the weekend.”

Femi Azeez has been sidelined since the opening day of the Championship season, when he picked up an injury during Millwall's 2-0 win over Bristol City, and he has not played since.

The Nigerian forward will now be hoping to recover in time to make his Brighton debut against Coventry, where he could come up against fellow Nigerians Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka. 

Azeez will also be hoping to regain full fitness in time for Nigeria's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.
