The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been notified of their opponents as they prepare for the AFCON 2027 tournament, set to be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, Soccernet.ng reports.
Eric Chelle's men were unbeaten at every game at the AFCON 2025 in Morocco, losing only on penalties to the host in the semi-final before securing a bronze medal against Egypt.
With participation in the 2026 World Cup out of the picture, several Nigerian football lovers are hoping the Super Eagles will amend for their mistakes by doing better in the AFCON tournament next year.

AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Super Eagles land in tricky group
The AFCON 2027 draw was done in Cairo earlier today, and the three-time African Champions have been drawn into the 12th group [Group L]. Of the twelve groups, the top two qualify for the group stage of the competition next year.
Nigeria will play against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, the Barea of Madagascar, and the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau.
The group stage fixtures for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers will run across three FIFA international windows [21 September – 6 October 2026, 9 November – 17 November 2026, 20 March –30 March 2027].
The home-and-away matches are spread over several months. As per the CAF official website, away points, goal difference and consistency are expected to be decisive.
Nigeria have a good record against all of their opponents in the Group and are strong favourites to finish top of Group L.

Before the qualifiers in September, Nigeria will compete in the 2026 Unity Cup next week, and then in the friendlies against Poland and Portugal as the European sides prepare for their respective World Cup campaigns.
