Sevilla change Chidera Ejuke transfer plans after failed Anderlecht move

Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke has returned to group training with Sevilla after his proposed move to Anderlecht failed to go through, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old Nigeria international trained with his teammates on Tuesday at the Jose Ramon Cisneros Palacios Sports City, according to Tribuna. This ends several weeks of separate work while Sevilla tried to find a solution to his future.

Ejuke had been left out of Sevilla's travelling squad for their pre-season camp in the Netherlands as the club worked on a possible transfer. His situation changed after the move to Anderlecht stalled, allowing him to rejoin the first-team group.

His return comes at an important time for Sevilla, even with the Spanish club already working on his replacement. The Spanish club are preparing for their La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano this weekend, and Ejuke could now be available for selection as the new season begins.

Why Ejuke is back at Sevilla

Anderlecht had been the most advanced option for Ejuke this summer. The Belgian club reportedly offered about €3.5 million for the winger, while Sevilla were willing to discuss a sale.

The transfer made sense for Sevilla because Ejuke has only one year left on his contract. Selling him this summer would also give the club a transfer fee instead of risking losing him for nothing when his deal expires.

But the proposed move broke down, with wage demands reported to be one of the main problems. No agreement was reached, leaving Ejuke without a new club and Sevilla without the expected transfer income.

The winger already knows Belgian football. He spent the 2023-24 season at Royal Antwerp, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 29 league appearances. That experience had made Anderlecht a natural destination for him.

Ejuke joined Sevilla as a free agent in June 2024 and signed a contract through 2027. His first two seasons in Spain were affected by injuries, limiting his opportunities to establish himself as a regular part of the team.

Interest from Saudi Arabia and the United States has also been reported, meaning the transfer story may not be finished. But until another deal is agreed, the Super Eagles winger is back in Sevilla's training group.

His return means Sevilla now have a player who was previously being prepared for a departure but has no completed transfer to take him away.

With the La Liga season about to start and the transfer window still open, Ejuke faces an uncertain few weeks. He could be involved against Rayo Vallecano, while Sevilla continue to consider what to do with his future.
