Middlesbrough have joined a fast-growing field of Premier League and European clubs pursuing highly rated Nigerian midfielder Sani Suleiman, Soccernet.ng reports.
Suleiman has attracted a long list of elite-level admirers after distinguishing himself as one of the most exciting young creators in European football.
According to a SportsBoom report, Championship club Middlesbrough made contact with AS Trenčín last Thursday as they assess the possibility of securing the 19-year-old in the January transfer window.

Suleiman, who joined the Slovakian side from Akwa United just over a year ago, has been in outstanding form this season and is now attracting interest from several major football markets.
The Nigerian teenager first gained international recognition at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, where his calmness, distribution, and attacking intelligence stood out despite Nigeria’s round-of-16 exit.

Suleiman: Premier League, Bundesliga clubs tracking Nigerian teen sensation
Chelsea, Tottenham, Brentford, and Bayer Leverkusen are among the clubs to have scouted Suleiman this season. Rangers and PSV Eindhoven have also made enquiries, while Ajax, PSG, and Royal Antwerp are understood to be following his progress closely.

Their interest has intensified significantly following a new data report published by the CIES Football Observatory, which ranked Suleiman the most creative U-21 player in world football based on penetrative passes in the final third in November. He averaged 2.52 last-third breaking passes per 90 minutes, topping a global list across 50 elite and secondary divisions.
The metric measures passes that leave three or fewer opponents between the ball and goal, a key indicator of elite playmaking vision. Suleiman shared first place with Ecuador’s Elían Caicedo, beating out players from Switzerland, France, Costa Rica, and Spain.
At Trenčín, the Nigerian starlet has grown into the heartbeat of the team’s midfield. Whether operating as a flying winger, a deep-lying orchestrator or a dynamic box-to-box presence, Suleiman has consistently displayed an impressive maturity in possession and an ability to progress play through tight defensive shapes, attributes that have drawn scouts from across Europe.

Trenčín reportedly intended to offer him a new deal but are now prepared to negotiate a sale in January, with the club keeping his likely destination strictly confidential as discussions deepen. Trenčín are believed to hold a two-year option on the youngster's contract, though the scale of interest may make a mid-season exit unavoidable.
Suleiman’s camp is believed to favour a move where his pathway to first-team development remains clear, with several clubs positioning themselves to offer him regular senior football.
While still at Akwa United, Suleiman won the NPFL Rookie of the Season at the League Bloggers Award last year.
