Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has played down concerns surrounding Stanley Nwabali following Nigeria’s tense 3–2 victory over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Soccernet.ng exclusively reports.
The former Colorado Rapids defender insists that the goalkeeper remains firmly in control despite late pressure in the game.
Nwabali came under scrutiny after a nervy final few minutes against the Carthage Eagles, which sparked questions about his composure and fitness ahead of Nigeria’s final Group C clash against Uganda.
However, Awaziem has dismissed any suggestion of a serious issue.

Speaking to Soccernet.ng, the Nantes defender expressed full confidence in the Super Eagles goalkeeper, stressing that there is no cause for alarm ahead of the Uganda fixture.
“Stanley Nwabali is a great goalkeeper as well, so I mean, he's just trying to be smart. He's an experienced goalkeeper, trying to do his thing as a goalkeeper. I mean, we don't have much to say to him because we know that he's got everything under control.” Awaziem told Soccernet.ng.
Speaking further, Awaziem reveal that the defensive unit sees the late tension against Tunisia as part of game management rather than any injury or deeper concern.
He added: “We just help him calm himself down, and we just keep going.”

What Nwabali’s Tunisia performance means for Super Eagles
