Werder Bremen coach Steffen Horst has dismissed rumours that Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is unprofessional or lazy, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface is one of the most criticized Super Eagles players, particularly due to his failure to consistently deliver for the country despite multiple opportunities.
Things have also not been smooth for him at the club level. His purported transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to AC Milan in the summer fell through due to concerns about his injury history.
He eventually completed a loan move to Werder Bremen on transfer deadline day. However, things have not gone as he would have hoped.
The 24-year-old striker has only managed two assists in nine appearances for Die Werderaner. Most of his appearances have even been off the bench.

This dip in form has drawn criticism from many fans, especially Nigerians. They believe that the former Royale Union SG player does not apply himself enough to his football career, especially as he is known to be a social media enthusiast.
Meanwhile, Werder Bremen’s next game is against FC Köln in the Bundesliga. Ahead of the fixture, Coach Steffen was asked about Boniface’s character.
The German tactician was quite clear in his response, as he noted that he has never had any problems with Boniface because the Super Eagles star is a solid professional.
“Who comes up with the idea of making such a statement?” Steffen said, per Kicker.
“There are always plenty of ways not to observe training. Therefore, I don’t know where that comes from, and I don’t want to say anything more about it.”
