Celtic shouldn’t have signed Kelechi Iheanacho – Scottish Premiership legend

Celtic shouldn’t have signed Kelechi Iheanacho – Scottish Premiership legend

Kelechi Iheanacho joined Celtic after terminating his contract at Sevilla…

Celtic legend Peter Grant has stated that signing Kieran Bowie from Hibernian during the transfer window would have been a better decision than signing Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho, Soccernet.ng reports.

Celtic lost last season's top striker Adam Idah to Swansea in the summer, and that created a void in their forward line.

As such, they signed Iheanacho, who was a free agent at the time, having terminated his contract with Spanish Laliga club Sevilla.

The move came as a surprise to most fans, but the Super Eagles striker hit the ground running, with two goals and one assist in his first three games.

But following that run, he contributed just one goal in his next five games. He has spent the last two weeks on the sidelines due to a slight injury.

Meanwhile, the Hoops have been struggling this season. They currently sit second in the Premiership, with 20 points from ten games.

They've not been as sharp as usual in attack, producing just 16 goals from 10 Premiership games, an uncharacteristically low return.

Why Grant Believes Celtic Should Have Signed Bowie Instead Of Kelechi Iheanacho

Former Celtic man Peter Grant has been speaking about the issues at the club, and he believes the forward line is not balanced, as Iheanacho is left-footed, alongside most of Celtic's attackers.

Also, Grant believes Bowie is a better marksman than Kelechi Iheanacho.

“I still think there were players here in Scotland that you could have made your team better with. There is no doubt in my mind,” Grant said, per 67hailhail.

“See on deadline day. I would have made a go for Bowie at Hibs. If you are thinking right, I have lost a striker.

“I am going to pay a few bob for him, because this kid is going to get better. He is strong. He is Scottish, and he can play in the Scottish game. He has proved it.

“Something like that. You don’t need analytics to tell you this kid could be your goalscorer.”

This season, Bowie has three goals and one assist in 11 league appearances for Hibernian. Iheanacho, on the other hand, has played seven games less, but he has two goals to his name.
