English Championship club West Brom are looking to tie down Super Eagles striker Josh Maja to a fresh contract, Soccernet.ng reports.

Maja joined West Brom from Bordeaux in 2023, and he has established himself as an important player for them, contributing 13 goals and two assists in 42 appearances.

Last season, he contributed 12 goals in 26 appearances, and was even in the run-in for the Championship Golden Boot. Unfortunately for him, he sustained an injury at the turn of the year and missed the rest of the season.

He has since returned to action, albeit he has had to start from the bench in all of West Brom's games this season. Coach Ryan Mason has preferred to start Aune Heggebo instead.

However, West Brom still see Maja as an important player. The Super Eagles striker's contract at the club is supposed to expire at the end of this season, but the Baggies want to keep him a bit longer.

According to Sportsboom, West Brom have started making moves to hand Maja a contract extension. The length of the new deal is unconfirmed, but it is highly unlikely that it will be long term.

The Super Eagles star will also want assurances that he will get enough game time before he agrees to put pen to paper.

Josh Maja For Nigeria's Super Eagles

Josh Maja was born in London, England to Nigerian parents, but he never kicked a ball for England at any level as he committed to Nigeria early.

The 26-year-old attacker, who turns 27 in December, got his first Super Eagles cap under Gernor Rohr in October 2019, in a friendly game against Ukraine. But that has been his only involvement with the Super Eagles.

He will be looking to return to the top of his game so he can earn a Super Eagles call-up again.
