Valencia and Elche are going head to head in the race to sign the Super Eagles star with AS Roma, Rangers, and Real Sociedad on his CV
Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has turned down an approach from newly promoted Elche, keeping alive Valencia’s hopes of securing his services for the coming season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 28-year-old forward, who boasts more than 100 career goals, is surplus to requirements at Real Sociedad, with new boss Sergio Francisco making it clear the striker is not part of his plans. Sociedad have been exploring exit routes for the player, but his high wages have complicated transfer talks in recent windows.
Elche were the latest club to register firm interest, offering Sadiq a guaranteed starting role as they strengthen for life back in LaLiga.
However, Spanish outlet El Desmaque reports that the Nigerian international has rejected the offer, as he has no interest in joining a newly promoted side. That decision leaves the door open for a return to Valencia, where Sadiq, who is also wanted in Qatar, spent the second half of last season on loan.
Valencia, managed by Carlos Corberán, opted not to activate their purchase clause earlier this summer but have now re-entered the race, proposing another loan and offering to cover his full salary.
The Nigerian is understood to be open to a reunion at Mestalla, where he enjoyed a productive spell despite the club’s mixed fortunes.
Sociedad, meanwhile, are keen to avoid a scenario in which Sadiq remains in San Sebastián without featuring.
With his contract running until June 2028, the Basque side are hopeful of striking a deal quickly to free up squad space and wages for further reinforcements, having already secured Duje Ćaleta-Car and Gonçalo Guedes this summer.
The race for Sadiq’s signature now appears to be a straight fight between Valencia’s familiar surroundings and Elche’s promise of regular football. A resolution is expected before the season kicks off, with Sociedad eager to draw a line under the saga.
