Former Super Eagles star Peter Odemwingie has explained why Victor Boniface would have been a perfect fit at AC Milan before the proposed move from Bayer Leverkusen fell through, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian international's transfer to the Rossoneri collapsed this week after medical tests raised concerns over his right knee, which forced Milan to abandon the deal.

Yet, his compatriot, Odemwingie, who shone in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion, had been convinced the 24-year-old possessed the qualities to thrive in Italy.

A huge opportunity for Boniface

Speaking to Footy-Africa before the move broke down, Odemwingie described Milan as the ideal platform for Boniface to elevate his career.

“I think this is a huge opportunity for Victor [Boniface]. He has proved himself in Germany with his goals and work rate, but Milan is a different kind of challenge, a club where the expectations are always high. Playing in Serie A will push him tactically, technically, and mentally, and I believe that will only make him stronger.”

The Super Eagles star’s qualities

Speaking further, the former Super Eagles forward revealed the Nigerian attacker's attributes that he believed could have made him a hit at San Siro.

“Victor [Boniface] is powerful, sharp, and always hungry for goals. What stands out to me is his mentality, he plays without fear and with great determination. Milan’s system will suit his movement, and with the passionate support of the fans, I expect him to grow into one of their key players.”

A deal that never happened

Per reports, Milan officials admired Boniface’s talent, but medical red flags and opposition from Massimiliano Allegri ultimately derailed the transfer.

The striker has since returned to Bayer Leverkusen, where he faces an uncertain future under manager Erik ten Hag.
