Genk’s Arokodare frustrated with transfer situation despite opening goal account

Tolu Arokodare Genk.

Super Eagles and KRC Genk striker Toluwalase Arokodare has aired his frustration at not being able to join a bigger club this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old forward has been second choice to Hyeon-gyu Oh at the Cageka Stadium. The South Korean was promised the starting position ahead of the 2025/2026 campaign, with Arokodare expected to move on to a bigger club.

However, the Nigerian striker is still at Genk, playing as a squad player. The lanky striker came off the bench against Standard Liege yesterday to score his first goal of the season as Genk continued their poor start to the season.

Thorsten Fink's side are yet to secure a win in the league this season after three games, and Arokodare urged his side to do better after the fixture at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

“I don’t think we could play better. We were good from the beginning. We tried all kinds of different things, but we conceded two unfortunate goals. There are still many games to play,” the former FC Koln striker said in quotes revealed by Voetbal Krant.

Arokodare frustrated by transfer dilemma

The 1.97m tall striker was promised a move away from Genk, with the club's sporting director, Dimitri De Condé making it clear that the Blues and Whites already have a replacement on their books.

Arokodare has been linked with Atalanta, Stuttgart, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and has even stated that it would be a dream to play for Manchester United. Since nothing has yet to happen, the ex-Amiens striker has been left infuriated.

“I can’t say anything about it, I don’t know anything about it myself. You hear rumours, I hear rumours, but have you heard something concrete?”

“Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, me too, but in the end, it doesn't matter much. I just want to be able to play good football and be appreciated, like Genk.

“I don’t know if this season is I’m leaving or next season. Anything can happen in football.

“It’s very frustrating, not knowing what’s happening. I try to stay calm, even though my head runs wild, but I have my friends and loved ones who keep me mentally stable,” Arokodare concluded.

Arokodare has played just 63 minutes of football with Genk this season, adding to the frustration of the Nigerian forward.
