Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade on a free transfer, making her the sixth Nigerian to represent the French giants, Soccernet.ng reports.

PSG Feminines announced on Tuesday that the 25-year-old forward has joined on a contract until June 2027.

The Nigerian international midfielder's arrival in Paris comes a few weeks after leaving Atletico Madrid, ending her four-and-a-half-year spell at the Spanish club.

Ajibade, who captains the Super Falcons, will link up with compatriot Jennifer Echegini, who arrived in Paris earlier this year.

She also follows in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians Nicole Payne, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Godwin Okpara and Bartholomew Ogbeche in wearing PSG colours.

Her career began at Lagos-based Robo Queens, where she emerged as one of the brightest talents in the Nigeria Women’s Premier League.

In 2017, she scored eight goals to keep her side safe from relegation and was named Player of the Season.

A move to Europe followed in 2018 when she signed for Norwegian club Avaldsnes, scoring 12 times in 39 appearances.

Atletico Madrid came calling in 2020, where Ajibade spent five years, collecting the Copa de la Reina and Supercopa de España. Her versatility across the forward line and knack for decisive moments earned her a reputation as one of Africa’s most complete attacking players.

Her international résumé is equally impressive. Ajibade captained Nigeria’s U-17 side at the 2016 World Cup and featured at U-20 level before breaking into the senior team.

She won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in 2018 and was top scorer at the 2022 edition, where she was also named in the tournament’s best XI. Last month, she led Nigeria to their 10th continental crown, finishing as Player of the Tournament.

PSG will hope her arrival strengthens their push to reclaim the Division 1 Féminine title from Olympique Lyonnais. Known for her tireless pressing, creativity, and leadership, Ajibade adds both quality and experience to a side intent on breaking Lyon’s dominance in France.

Ajibade has scored 20 goals in 38 appearances for Nigeria.
