Atlético de Madrid Femenino are closing in on the signing of another Nigerian international—former Liverpool forward, Rinsola Babajide, after bidding farewell to Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ajibade officially parted ways with the Spanish outfit following the expiration of her contract, bringing to an end a fruitful three-and-a-half-year spell with the Colchoneras.

The 25-year-old joined Atlético from Nigeria Women Football League side Robo Queens in 2021 and went on to score 40 goals in 138 appearances. During her stay, she helped the team win the Supercopa de España in 2021 and the Copa de la Reina in 2023.

Her departure was confirmed alongside that of Marta Cardona, Ainhoa Moraza, and Merle Barth, with the club stating on social media:

“Our players Cardona, Ajibade, Moraza, and Barth will not continue as Red and White next season and will bid farewell to the fans on Sunday at Alcalá.”

With Ajibade’s exit, Atlético Madrid are not wasting time in rebuilding their attack. The club is reportedly on the verge of completing two signings—Rinsola Babajide from Costa Adeje Tenerife and Macarena Portales from Levante Badalona.

Though born in England and having represented the Lionesses at youth level, Babajide switched allegiance to Nigeria in 2023 and has made five appearances for the Super Falcons since her debut in October.

Fueling speculation of an imminent move, the 26-year-old was recently spotted vacationing in Madrid and captioned a post on social media: “A tourist babe in Madrid.”

If the deal is finalised, Babajide could play a key role in helping Atlético challenge once again for silverware in Spain’s top flight.
