Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A clubs battle for new Super Eagles star who dumped Germany for Nigeria

Nigerian international Felix Agu has emerged as a summer target for several top-tier clubs in England, Germany, and Italy, sparking a growing transfer scramble for the talented full-back, Soccernet.ng reports.

According to German publication Sport BILD via Yahoo Sports, multiple European sides have initiated contact with the representatives of the Werder Bremen defender, although no formal offers have been tabled.

Agu, 25, has established himself as a key figure for Die Werderaner, but his long-term future at the club is now the subject of speculation following recent developments in his contract situation.

While Agu remains tied to Bremen until the summer of 2027, his €8 million release clause — active until the end of May — has now expired.

That clause had presented an opportunity for clubs to snap him up at a fixed fee, but with the deadline passed, the Bundesliga side now has full control over potential negotiations.

Werder Bremen’s head of football, Clemens Fritz, has moved quickly to reiterate the club’s intention to retain Agu for the upcoming season, describing the defender as a vital part of their squad.

“Felix has developed tremendously,” Fritz told DeichStube. “After a brief injury, he returned to action in superb form and played a major role during the closing weeks of the campaign. He’s very much part of our plans going forward.”

Agu, who was born in Germany to Nigerian parents, recently committed his international future to Nigeria. He made his Super Eagles debut in May during a friendly clash with Jamaica in the Unity Cup, adding an international dimension to his growing profile.

Despite the uncertainty, sources close to the player suggest Agu is open to a new challenge abroad. With clubs in three of Europe’s top five leagues now circling, his next move could arrive before the end of the transfer window — but only if Werder Bremen’s valuation is met.
