Money, nationality, and the city lights – The top reasons Moses Simon is eager to leave Nantes for Paris FC

Moses Simon is on the verge of a move from FC Nantes to newly promoted Ligue 1 side Paris FC, as negotiations between the two clubs enter their final stages, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian international has been a standout figure at Nantes since his permanent switch from Levante in 2020, following a successful loan spell.

Simon was signed for €5 million at the time — the same fee Paris FC reportedly offered in their initial bid to secure the 29-year-old’s services.

Although Nantes turned down that opening offer, a deal now appears imminent. French outlet L’Équipe via ButFootballClub reports that an agreement could be finalised early this week, potentially for a figure slightly above the initial €5 million proposal. With only a year left on Simon’s contract and his market value estimated at €12 million on Transfermarkt, the Canaries are under increasing pressure to sell.

Simon has built a solid legacy at the Stade de la Beaujoire. He has made 201 appearances for Nantes, registering 33 goals and 42 assists — more than any other player in the club’s history across all competitions.

In Ligue 1 alone, his 38 assists are the highest ever recorded by a Nantes player in the competition. He also played a crucial role in helping the club lift the Coupe de France in 2022, ending a 21-year trophy drought.

Despite being linked with several clubs abroad, including Everton and Leeds United, it is Paris FC — backed by the influential Arnault family and Red Bull — who have emerged as frontrunners. Simon is said to be enthusiastic about the project at the ambitious capital club and has already agreed personal terms.

Three key reasons why Moses Simon is eager to join Paris FC

French citizenship in sight

Simon is keen to remain in France to complete the process of obtaining dual nationality. Staying within the country not only keeps that goal on track but could ease future career and lifestyle choices.

Financial upgrade

Paris FC are reportedly offering a salary package that exceeds Simon’s current €120,000 per month deal at Nantes. The financial incentive, combined with long-term security, has played a major role in his desire to switch.

The lure of Paris

The appeal of living and playing in the French capital is significant. For many players, the prestige and visibility that come with being based in Paris add an extra layer of attraction to any potential move.

Nantes owner Waldemar Kita has remained firm during initial talks, having also rejected Marseille’s interest in Matthis Abline unless their €40 million valuation was met. However, in Simon’s case, with contract expiry looming and the player eager to move, Nantes are now thought to be ready to accept a bid between €5m and €10m.

While Nantes will lose one of their most reliable attacking assets, the funds raised could aid their summer recruitment push.
