Olympique Marseille are weighing up a sensational summer swoop for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, with the Europa League winner attracting growing interest from Europe's elite clubs, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lookman, 27, has enjoyed a stunning three-year spell at Atalanta, culminating in his talismanic display during their historic Europa League triumph last season — including a breathtaking hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. His form has turned heads across Europe, with Marseille reportedly keen to muscle in on the race for his signature.

The Nigerian winger finished the 2024-2025 campaign with 15 goals and five assists in Serie A, and another five strikes in the Champions League. In total, he’s scored 52 goals and contributed 25 assists in 118 appearances for Atalanta since joining from RB Leipzig.

Could Marseille pull off a shock move for Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman?

While Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus, and Napoli are all understood to be monitoring Lookman, French outlet Sport.fr has now linked him with Marseille, who are preparing for a high-stakes summer rebuild ahead of their return to the Champions League.

Respected journalist Sacha Nabel claimed Marseille could test Atalanta’s resolve, despite financial constraints. “Lookman is valued at €60 million and earns €150,000 per month at Atalanta,” he said, noting comparisons to former OM winger Luis Henrique, who was sold for €25m on a lower wage.

The challenge for Marseille lies in pulling off what would be a marquee signing amid stiff competition. Club president Pablo Longoria, however, is known for ambitious moves — and fans are daring to dream.

Interestingly, Lookman’s name has also emerged on Barcelona's transfer shortlist. Boss Hansi Flick is reportedly a huge admirer of the Super Eagles ace and has urged the Catalan board to make a formal approach, according to Barca Times.

With his contract at Atalanta running until 2027, it would take a substantial offer to prise him away.

Still, as Marseille prepare for their Champions League return and Barcelona look to strengthen under Flick, the battle for Lookman’s signature is heating up.

Where next for the reigning African Footballer of the Year? A move to Marseille would certainly raise eyebrows — but with top European clubs circling, this transfer saga is just getting started.
