Victor Osimhen: Why Super Eagles star will not join Manchester United

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with Manchester United in recent week, but it now seems highly unlikely that he will make the big move this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen is one of the hottest strikers in the world right now, as he has been consistently churning out goals for the past three seasons. His performances has seen him linked to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

In the English Premier League, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United have been in the mix.

Last summer, it looked like he would leave Napoli for one of these clubs, but nothing concrete happened, and he eventually had to settle for a loan to Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray.

Now, after a brilliant campaign that has seen him claim the Turkish Super Lig and the Turkish Cup after contributing 30 goals and six assists in 33 games, Osimhen is up for a big summer.

But it seems unlikely that Manchester United will be the the destination. And this is because the Red Devils appear to have their eyes elsewhere.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are close to finalizing the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton. In a few days, the transfer is expected to be completed.

This is a marquee signing for the Red Devils, as Cunha will cost them close to €70 million. This will bring the number of senior team strikers at Manchester United to three. But it is expected that one of Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund will leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The Cunha deal also means that Manchester United will not sign another top striker during the summer transfer window, as coach Ruben Amorim's setup needs only one striker. Hence, Osimhen's destination might be elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils do not have the financial muscle they used to have. As such, they won't be able to make big signings as before.

Osimhen would cost them €70 million at least, and his wages would be also be a problem, especially as the club is looking to recruit more talents in other areas of the pitch.

Which club will Victor Osimhen join?

As it stands, it is difficult to predict Victor Osimhen’s next destination. Most of the top clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia are keeping tabs on him.

Galatasaray are also willing to keep him permanently if they can agree on a fee with Napoli.

Nothing is concrete yet. But the Super Eagles star has to make a decision early so his issue does not drag into the next season.
