Nigerian winger Paul Mukairu grabbed the headlines on Sunday with a well-taken brace as Boluspor thrashed bottom-placed Yeni Malatyaspor 10-1 in a remarkable Turkish 1. Lig encounter, Soccernet.ng reports.

Already relegated after losing all 36 of their previous matches and conceding a staggering 138 goals, Yeni Malatyaspor arrived at the Yıldız Entegre Kocaeli Stadium with little hope and left with their heaviest defeat of a wretched campaign.

Boluspor showed no sympathy, racing into a 3-0 lead within the opening 30 minutes. Paul Mukairu netted the third with a smart header into the far corner, following earlier efforts from Oğuz Kağan Güçtekin and Jefferson.

Although Yeni Malatyaspor briefly halted the onslaught with Enes Savucu’s consolation just before the break, Boluspor responded ruthlessly in the second half.

Senegalese striker Khouma El Hadji Babacar made it 4-1 on the hour mark before Kosovo international Florent Hasani extended the lead from the penalty spot in the 76th minute.

Just two minutes later, Paul Mukairu bagged his second, sweeping home an elegant first-time finish after a slick team move carved open the visitors’ defence.

Four more goals followed in the final five minutes as Yeni Malatyaspor crumbled completely, conceding double digits for the first time this season.

The emphatic result leaves Boluspor level on points with Iğdır FK, who currently occupy the final promotion playoff spot, and ensures the race for the Turkish Super Lig remains tight.

Mukairu’s performance was a standout moment in what has been one of his most productive campaigns to date.

The 25-year-old, on a season-long loan from Danish side FC Copenhagen, has now registered six goals and 11 assists in 33 league appearances.

Having previously played for Antalyaspor, Anderlecht and Reading, the former FC Hearts Academy graduate has impressed with his creativity and directness on the wing. If Boluspor secure promotion, the club could be tempted to make his move permanent.

With one league game left of the regular season, Mukairu will now aim to finish the campaign strongly and help push Boluspor back into the Turkish top flight.
