Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has insisted the Bundesliga title race is not over yet, warning Bayern Munich that his side will continue to fight until the final whistle of the season, Soccernet.ng reports.

With only four games remaining in the 2024/25 campaign, Bayern Munich are in a strong position to reclaim the Bundesliga title they lost to Leverkusen last season. The Bavarians currently sit eight points clear at the top of the table.

Despite being second, Leverkusen have only suffered two defeats all season – the same number as Bayern – but have been made to pay for 10 draws, compared to Bayern’s six.

Xabi Alonso’s men are now facing the difficult prospect of ending the campaign without silverware, having exited the DFB Pokal and UEFA Champions League earlier in the season.

Boniface, who dazzled during his debut Bundesliga campaign last term with 14 goals and eight assists iin 23 matches, has struggled with injuries and off-field issues this season.

The Nigeria international has managed eight goals in 19 appearances in the Bundesliga this term, alongside one assist, and is Leverkusen’s third-highest scorer in the league.

What did Victor Boniface say?

However, the 24-year-old forward remains optimistic and determined.

“It’s been a good season,” Boniface told Bundesliga.com.

“Compared to what we did last season, everybody’s expecting us to do the same, and we tried. We gave everything, and we’re still in the title race, no matter that there are only four games left. For me, it’s been a good season, but we could have done better in some games like the DFB Cup. It’s football but, in general, I think it’s an okay season.

“Just to try to win every game and see how it goes.”

Boniface’s most recent goal came in a 3-1 win over Bochum on March 28. His first goals of the season arrived in a brace against Hoffenheim back in September. He featured for just one minute in Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw against St. Pauli on April 20 and is expected to be involved in their upcoming clash against Augsburg on April 26.

While the title race continues, Boniface also took time to praise Bayern Munich legend Thomas Müller, who recently announced he will leave the club at the end of the season after a remarkable 25-year career.

Müller, one of the Bundesliga’s most decorated players, has won 12 Bundesliga titles, six DFB Pokals, eight German Super Cups, two Champions League titles, and two FIFA Club World Cups.

“I think he’s a great, great football player, and a great guy in general,” Boniface said. “After a game, sometimes he would come to me and told me I played well and to keep it up. For a player like him to say that – big respect. Outside of football, I see him as a funny individual like me as well, so I respect him.”

Bayern Munich will be crowned Bundesliga champions for a record-extending 34th time should the Bavarians beat Mainz at home and Bayer Leverkusen fail to overcome Augsburg.
