Ikorodu City defender Leonard Ngenge is set to complete a move to EFL Championship leaders Leeds United in August, Soccernet.ng reports.

Earlier reports suggested that Daniel Farke’s side was plotting a move for the Nigerian youngster. However, they have now secured a deal that could see him potentially play in the English Premier League in the future.

Soccernet.ng understands that the young defender has signed a pre-contract agreement with the club and is expected to join the English side during the summer transfer window.

According to The72, earlier reports indicated that Ngenge could not sign for the club immediately after being spotted due to FIFA regulations, as he had not yet turned 18. However, a pre-agreement has now been sealed for him.

Despite this, the young defender will not be allowed to officially join the EFL Championship club until he turns 18, in compliance with FIFA rules.

Since Ngenge will be 18 by the time he is eligible to sign, he is expected to initially integrate with Leeds United’s U18 squad before gradually progressing to the U21s.

Ngenge previously had a trial with Leeds, and following a successful spell, the Whites have finalised the deal, with both parties sharing a mutual interest.

The highly rated youngster is expected to be a quality long-term acquisition for the Yorkshire giants, who have a strong track record of nurturing young talents into established stars.

Swedish side Hammarby IF were also keen on signing Ngenge, but Leeds appear best placed to secure his services when he is eligible to move.
