AC Milan are at a critical juncture regarding the future of 19-year-old Nigerian midfielder Victor Eletu, Soccernet.ng reports.
Eletu, who is into the final six months of his contract with the Italian giants, could be on his way out of the club seven years after first arriving at the club.
The young talents development has been on a positive trajectory, although he suffered a meniscus injury in March 2024 that threatened to delay his growth.
However, Eletu’s return to full fitness has been a revelation.
His impressive resurgence following that setback has attracted widespread interest from clubs across Europe and Major League Soccer (MLS).
The Lagos-born midfielder has been pivotal in AC Milan’s Primavera championship campaign, earning the attention of Milan Futuro. Under the watchful eye of Daniele Bonera, head coach of Milan’s Serie C Under-23 team, Eletu has shown remarkable growth, even earning a call-up for the Coppa Italia clash against Torres.
According to Pianeta Milan, AC Milan recognise Eletu’s potential but the club will evaluate the youngster over the coming months before handing him a new contract.
The midfielder’s current contract, signed in December 2022, is set to expire on June 30.
Negotiations for an extension are imminent, but the club faces competition from suitors in France, Belgium, and the MLS. With just months remaining on his deal, Eletu is free to explore other opportunities, raising the stakes for Milan.
Eletu’s football journey began at Prince Kazeem Eletu Academy in Lagos, where his talent earned him a scholarship to AC Milan in 2018.
Progressing through the ranks, he captained the Under-19 side during the 2022–23 season.
In February 2024, he received his first senior team call-up for Serie A and Europa League matches, though he is yet to debut at that level.
Internationally, Eletu shone for Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, helping the Flying Eagles defeat Italy and hosts Argentina en route to the quarterfinals.
