Rangers FC striker Cyriel Dessers has been ruled out as a potential transfer target for a Serie A side, despite earlier speculation linking him with a return to Italy, Soccernet.ng reports.
Earlier reports suggested that the Super Eagles attacker had emerged as a target for the Serie A mid-table team just a year after making an exit from the Italian league.
It would be recalled that the former KRC Genk forward joined U.S. Cremonese, where he spent just one year, scoring seven goals and making two assists before moving to Scotland.
Reports circulating in the Scottish media outlets have suggested that the 1970 Serie A champions have lined up a deal worth around £4.2 million for the striker.
Soccernet.ng has been told that the Nigerian international was initially targeted by the club early in the summer, but with the signing of Roberto Piccoli, Dessers is no longer seen as a viable option for the team.
Confirmed 🚨
Cyriel Dessers has been linked with a return to Serie A. But @soccernet_ng has been told that he is not a “possible target” for Cagliari following the signing of Piccoli on loan. Perhaps later, depending on Lapadula.#Transfers #SerieA https://t.co/bN3UmnFlBX pic.twitter.com/1uiiCyTGn6

Furthermore, in the final days of the transfer window, the former Feyenoord forward could resurface as a target, but this largely hinges on whether Gianluca Lapadula leaves the club.
With Dessers showing promising form in the 2023-24 season campaign, it is unlikely that Philippe Clement would want to ship him out of the club this early.
