Italian Serie A club Cagliari are plotting to sign Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers from Scottish Premiership side Rangers this summer, Soccernet.ng reports.
Dessers’ future has been in the balance this summer, despite having a decent debut season for Rangers. The former Cremonese man produced 22 goals and nine assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season.
Still, Dessers was serially maligned by some sections of the Gers’ fanbase. This summer, the 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a transfer to Greek champions PAOK, but nothing concrete has emerged yet.
The Super Eagles star even expressed his desire to leave the Gers by tendering a transfer request. But in recent days, the talks have died down.
However, according to a new report, Dessers may just be on the move this summer, but not to Greece. Football Italia say that Cagliari have enquired about Dessers’ availability this summer. But Rangers will only listen if the Serie A club present an offer of €5 million (₦8.4 billion).
Recall that Rangers paid €5 million for Dessers last year. As such, they would be looking to recoup most of the money they spent on him, especially after his decent numbers last season. Also, Rangers may be unwilling to release him because they currently do not have any player of Dessers’ quality on the bench.
Nonetheless, Dessers could try to force the move because of the allure of playing for a club in one of top five leagues.
