Fiorentina have not won a trophy since 2001, but Kayode is looking to bring back their glory days
Nigeria-eligible defender Michael Kayode has stated that he wants to help Fiorentina qualify for next season’s Champions League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Fiorentina have been impressive this season. They sit 7th on the Serie A table with 24 points after 15 games. They have won seven games, lost five, and drawn three.
They also have a good record on the continent as they finished on top of their UEFA Conference League, two points ahead of second-placed Ferencvaros.
Nigerian youngster Kayode has been important to Fiorentina’s achievements this season, making eight appearances in the Serie A and five in the Conference League. Despite his age, the 19-year-old Nigeria-eligible defender is quite confident that Fiorentina can win silverware this season.
“We want to go to the Champions League. We have a great team. And we also want to return to the final in both the Italian Cup and the Conference League, to bring a trophy to Florence,” Kayode said per Napoli Magazine
The last time Fiorentina played in the Champions was in 2010, when they were kncked out by Bayern Munich. Qualifying for the competition would be a really big achievement for them.
Kayode was born to Nigerian parents in Italy, and he currently plays for the Italian youth teams. However, he can still play for the Super Eagles because he has not played for the Azzurri.
