Kelechi Iheanacho has played in all Leicester City matches this season following weeks of speculation linking him with a move away from the King Power Stadium
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly eyeing a potential move for Kelechi Iheanacho as the transfer deadline approaches, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 26-year-old forward has been consistently linked with a return to the Premier League after Leicester City’s relegation from the competition last season.
Despite the relegation, Iheanacho has been an integral part of Enzo Maresca’s squad this season, contributing to their perfect start in the Championship with four wins in four matches.
With less than a year remaining on his current contract, the former Manchester City striker could begin negotiations with foreign clubs for a pre-contract agreement from January, if he decides to prolong his stay at the King Power Stadium beyond this summer.
In the latest update, it has emerged that Premier League outfit Wolves are also interested in securing the services of the Super Eagles striker, as reported by Football Insider.
Wolves find themselves in need of a replacement for Mexican international Raul Jimenez, who departed the club to join Fulham in this transfer window, leaving them short of options in the attacking department.
Iheanacho has already contributed with one goal and two assists in five appearances, amassing a total of 293 minutes of action in the current season.
His performances include scoring and assisting in the League Cup victory against Burton Albion, as well as providing another assist in Leicester City’s 2-1 away triumph against Rotterdam United last weekend.
In the 2022-23 season, he notched up eight goals and five assists across 35 appearances as Leicester City suffered relegation from the Premier League. In the preceding season, the Nigerian striker recorded an impressive tally of 19 goals and seven assists in 39 games, playing a pivotal role as the Foxes clinched the FA Cup.
