Sheffield United just got promoted to the Premier League, and they want to add some quality to their squad
Newly-promoted Premier League club Sheffield United are interested in signing Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough this summer, Soccernet reports.
Akpom had a remarkable campaign with Boro last season, netting 28 goals in the Championship. He broke the club’s record for the highest number of goals in a league season.
Unfortunately, his brilliance was not enough for Boro to gain promotion to the Premier League, as they were knocked out in the playoffs.
Following his successful campaign, there have been talks linking the Nigerian with a transfer away from Middlesbrough, especially as his contract at the club will expire at the end of the season.
Everton and Crystal Palace have come up as potential destinations, with the two clubs searching for attacking options. However, nothing concrete has come up yet.
Akpom even stated his desire to remain at the club this season, but he did not reveal if he would pen a new deal.
The 27-year-old striker’s admission has still not ended talks about his future, as fresh reports from Alan Nixon per the Bladesman suggest that Sheffield United are seriously interested in signing him.
Akpom would come cheap, especially as Middlesbrough would not want him to leave for free next summer. He could cost the blades around €8-12million.
