Moffi was brilliant for Les Merlus, but his effort just came up short
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi scored for Lorient, but his effort was not enough as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at Marseille.
After picking a point against Monaco last time out, Lorient were looking to claim a major scalp when they traveled to the Stade Velodrome to take on Marseille.
Super Eagles hitman Moffi had the tough task of leading the frontline for Les Merlus.
He started well, and he needed just 29 minutes to get on the scoresheet. The 23-year-old Nigerian striker latched on to a ball from a corner kick and blasted it into the net to put Lorient in front.
However, Lorient’s lead did not last, as Sead Kolasinac scored the equalizer for Marseille in the 38th minute.
Marseille increased their intensity in the second half, and they were rewarded. Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Jordan Veretout ensured that it ended 3-1 for the French giants.
Moffi’s goal was his twelfth of the season after 18 games. The Super Eagles striker is now second on the goalscorers’ chart. Only Kylian Mbappe has more goals in Ligue 1 this season.
