The Nigerianlate riker scored a worldie against Inter Milan, but his efforts fell short
Nigerian striker David Okereke has expressed his elation at scoring against Inter Milan, and he believes that his Cremonese side would soon rise from their dismal start to the season and start winning games.
It has been a torrid start to life in the Serie A for the Grigiorossi, as they have lost all four of their games this season.
The team has shown promise, with new Nigerian signings Cyriel Dessers and Okereke showing glimpses of brilliance. However, they have fallen short.
Cremonese lost their fourth game in a row when they fell 3-1 to Inter Milan at San Siro. But Okereke’s strike made headlines, as his right-footed curler from outside the box left Samir Handanovic helpless.
Speaking after the game, Okereke explained that scoring against the former Italian champions was special, but urged Cremonese fans to keep their belief in the team.
“It’s not my best goal, but for sure scoring at San Siro is never trivial”, Okereke said as per Cremonese’s website.
“However, I prefer goals that bring points. In any case, I want to dedicate it to the fans who even today were very numerous at San Siro to support us.
“I hope they are not disappointed because we are giving everything and continuing to work I’m sure the results will come”.
“We always try to field what the coach asks of us, in the end, we did well but it wasn’t enough.
“But we came out with our heads held high, the championship is long, we have a goal and we must continue to work and stay focused.”
Cremonese sit 19th in Serie with no points. Nonetheless, they have a chance to alter the status quo on Sunday when they square off against Sassuolo.
Okereke and his compatriot Dessers would look to power their team to victory at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.
