The Nigeria international was yet again one of the best performers on a night the Blues claimed their first win of the season
Chelsea great Frank Lampard has applauded the contribution of Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi following Everton’s Carabao Cup second-round win at Fleetwood on Tuesday.
Iwobi was on from start to finish as Everton carved out a 1-0 victory at the Highbury Stadium in Fleetwood, Lancashire.
The Nigeria international continued in his newfound role at the heart of the Everton midfielder, showing yet again his tireless engine and brilliant technical quality.
The former Arsenal winger’s most important contribution, however, came in the 28th minute when he supplied the assist to Demarai Gray’s winning goal.
Everton fans, impressed by Iwobi’s display, voted the Nigerian midfielder the man of the match.
And club manager Frank Lampard also confessed that he was pleased with the 26-year-old’s high-calibre performance.
“Alex playing at a really high level where he plays – midfield, higher up the pitch – and he works off the ball and he’s a huge player for this squad,” Lampard told the Everton official website.
“We’re delighted with his performances, and since I’ve been here, he’s been getting better and better. He’s started the season in great form.”
Everton are still looking for their first win in the Premier League, though. The Blues have lost to Chelsea and Aston Villa and managed to draw at home to Nottingham Forest.
Iwobi and his teammates will target a first league win of the campaign when they visit Brentford this weekend.
