The Hammers are searching for reinforcements as they look to improve on their achievements of last season, and they could swoop in for the unsettled Super Eagles star
Premier League side West Ham have renewed their interest in unsettled Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu.
Onuachu was the best player in Belgium two seasons ago after he scored 33 goals in 38 Jupiler League appearances. After his feat, the FC Ebedei product was expected to leave Cegeka Arena.
Onuachu was linked to Lyon, Arsenal, and West Ham, but nothing concrete emerged and he had to remain at Genk despite revealing that he wanted to leave the club.
Last season, the Nigerian striker hit 21 goals in 35 games- a decent return, but a far cry from the previous season. The reason for the drop may not be far-fetched, as Onuachu suffered many injuries. Still, the disappointment of not making a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues may have played a role.
Nonetheless, Onuachu could still leave Genk this season, as the Limburgers reduced their evaluation of the player to €20million(₦8.9billion).
Besiktas and Atletico Madrid have been linked with Onuachu this summer, but according to Orta Cizgi, West Ham are also looking to swoop in for the 28-year-old.
The Hammers had a decent campaign last season, finishing seventh in the Premier League and reaching the semifinals of the Europa League. However, West Ham boss David Moyes would be looking to push higher.
Onuachu could add another dimension to the Hammers’ setup with his aerial ability.
Nonetheless, before they can get their man, they would have to cough out €20million.
